Surimi Is the Seafood Alternative of Choice for Shellfish Lovers

Who doesn't enjoy a pile of Alaska crab legs from time to time, or a feast of scallops or jumbo shrimp from those chilly northern seas? Folks that really love seafood--and shellfish in particular--know that there is no better, more natural and more sustainable source to satisfy their cravings than the Alaskan fisheries; at the same time, they also likely know that shellfish products such as those mentioned above can be a bit on the pricy side, making them treats rather than dietary staples. However, for people that absolutely need their seafood/shellfish cravings satisfied, there is premium Alaska surimi to turn to as a more-than-pleasing, highly affordable alternative.

Not all surimi is the same, and in fact many people have likely only ever tried sub-standard surimi products in the past and been put off by them (the term "sea-leg" will just never sound appetizing, and the product itself isn't appetizing either). For the absolute best it is necessary to get Alaska surimi, which is produced with the highest quality fish and is infused with the flavor or one or more exquisite Alaska shellfish varieties.

The process for making Alaska surimi starts with boneless and skinless Alaska Pollock fillets of the highest quality which are cut into extremely tiny pieces, to which is added a few starchy and bonding agents to give the surimi cohesiveness and the ability to take a given form (such as that of a crab leg, or even a shrimp tail). Also added into the mix is a certain amount of what is usually crab meat and/or flavor essence from scallops or other shellfish varieties, and this pasty product is formed into myriad shapes and cut as needed, either in bite-size chunks, in larger chunks, or even in simply shredded form--excellent for making salads.

The beauty about Alaska surimi is that it locks in all that great shellfish flavor that true seafood lovers adore, and yet offers it up at a fraction of the cost of such products. Furthermore, many parents will find that surimi is a great way to warm their kids up to seafood in general as it comes in fun shapes, has a texture children will find easier to manage, and can be utilized in a million-and-one different ways!
